Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some Individuals argued that these days people have enormous preferences. I strongly agree with this because of the open minded and greater freedom and more choices in education and career opportunities.

To begin with, the significant benefits of more choices. One of the most compelling point is greater freedom and personal preferences. In this contemporary society, people have enormous choices and preferences in their personal and professional life, and people have become more open-minded. They have more freedom and more personal preferences as compared to the previous generations. They can go anywhere, access anything at any time rather than taking permissionFor example, nowadays, many women choose to live independently in big cities to pursue better career opportunities, which reflects their growing independence.. Consequently, these days people have substantial amount of choices in their life.

Furthermore, another worthmentioning benefit is the wider range of educational and career opportunities. Due to the rapid development of technology, people can pursue different types of courses that match their interests. This allows them to develop their skills and build their careers more effectively. They can apply to prestigious universities or study online instead of attending colleges physically. Moreover, governments and educational institutions offer scholarships and financial assistance to help students afford their education.

In conclusion, although having too many choices can sometimes make decisions eas, I believe that the benefits, particularly greater personal freedom and wider educational and career opportunities, outweigh the drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: “I strongly agree,” and the response gives two relevant reasons—greater personal freedom and wider educational and career opportunities. The examples about women living independently and students studying online or receiving scholarships help connect these points to real situations. However, the discussion mainly explains the benefits of having more choices; it does not fully examine whether people have too many choices or develop the possible drawbacks. The conclusion briefly acknowledges that decisions can be difficult, but this point is not explained in the body. The response is also 12 words below the required minimum. Develop the drawback or clarify why the benefits outweigh it, and extend the supporting explanation to address the question more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. “To begin with” and “Furthermore” make the progression between the main points easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to your overall position. However, the first body paragraph repeats the ideas of freedom, preferences, and choices several times, so its progression is less clear than the second paragraph’s. The example about women is also joined awkwardly to the preceding sentence, and the conclusion introduces decision-making difficulty without a developed link to the body. Organise each paragraph around one distinct point, reduce repetition, and use clearer sentence boundaries and references to make the connections more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “personal and professional life,” “career opportunities,” “rapid development of technology,” and “financial assistance.” These expressions help communicate the topic, and some attempts at more formal language are evident. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “enormous preferences” for a large number of options, “worthmentioning benefit,” and “substantial amount of choices.” Repetition of “choices,” “freedom,” and “preferences” also limits flexibility. There are spelling or word-form problems, including “open minded” and “eas,” which reduce polish. Aim for precise collocations and vary repeated terms; proofreading would help ensure that intended vocabulary is clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause beginning “Due to the rapid development of technology” and the relative clause “which reflects their growing independence.” Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or faulty. For example, “To begin with, the significant benefits of more choices” is a fragment, and “One of the most compelling point is” has a number-agreement error. The sentence beginning “They can go anywhere” runs into the example without a clear boundary, while the conclusion contains an incomplete or mistyped phrase before “I believe.” Work on complete sentence construction, agreement, and punctuation, then proofread carefully so these errors do not interrupt the reader.
