Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, many people are of the opinion that we have too many options to choose nowadays. This is because with the advancements in technology, there are different options to select. I slightly disagree with this statement because if a person has too many choices, he would get confused. Although personal freedom is still dominant in these situations, the drawbacks ought to be considered too.
In daily lifestyles, people are spending a significant amount of their time searching for different items on their smartphones. These can be either clothing- or food-related things. This provides a person with too many options from different vendors to select. It leads to a mental confusion in a person, causing fatigue and stress in finding the required option. As a result, a person gets dissatisfied and frustrated to get to a decision. For example, many children break their smartphones in anger and frustration if they don't get their favorite toys and gadgets after spending hours searching.
There are certain benefits of having too many choices in different aspects of life, such as career opportunities and deciding daily food items. It instills a sense of personal freedom in a person, leading to motivation and satisfaction in reaching to particular item and buying it. This made them productive in different areas of their lives. Hence, their performance increases, and they can easily achieve their targets. For instance, many people are able to eat good food when they buy the food of their own choice.
In conclusion, apart from personal satisfaction in having many options, the downside of frustration and tiredness should be focused on buying certain items.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the question by presenting a position and discussing both the disadvantages and benefits of having many choices. The first body paragraph explains how online shopping can cause confusion, fatigue and frustration, while the next identifies freedom and motivation as benefits. However, your stance is not fully consistent: “I slightly disagree” is followed mainly by drawbacks, and the conclusion again emphasises the downside without clearly weighing the two sides. Some support is also under-developed; for example, the example about children breaking smartphones does not clearly show that too many choices cause this reaction. Make your degree of agreement explicit and sustain it, then explain each example’s connection to your argument more carefully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Although,” “As a result,” “Hence” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some connections are unclear. In the first paragraph, the move from online shopping to children breaking smartphones needs a more direct explanation. The second body paragraph shifts between career opportunities, food choices and productivity without developing a single clear line of reasoning. The conclusion also introduces “buying certain items” rather abruptly. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point and connect examples explicitly to that point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “advancements in technology,” “personal freedom,” “mental confusion,” “fatigue” and “frustrated.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there is some attempt to use more formal language. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “different options to select,” “reaching to particular item,” and “the downside … should be focused on buying certain items.” Repetition of “options,” “choices” and “person” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, especially when describing the effects of choice and stating your conclusion. This would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence (“if a person has too many choices”) and a concession clause beginning “Although.” Most sentences communicate their main meaning, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, particularly with articles, prepositions and verb forms. For example, “reaching to particular item” needs a different preposition and an article, while “This made them productive” shifts tense from the surrounding present-tense discussion. “People are spending” is also less consistent with the general statement than “people spend.” Review article use and maintain consistent tense, while continuing to practise complex sentences with accurate clause structure.
