Student answer (Band 6.0)

Currently, some individuals think that a considerable number of options is available for us.

I agree to a point with this view as nowadays there are a variety of companies produce items with different qualities. However, these choices sometimes lead to disappearing of the original product.

On the one hand, there are many products that are available in both traditional shops and online. The companies provide people with many choices, regardless the product type. As a result, individuals are able to choose based on what requirments they have. For instance, if we want to purchase a TV, we have a different number of brands on the table. Thus, compared to many years ago, sometimes we get loss through many different companies with the same or distinct items.

On the other hand, as we have so many options of products to choose and with different prices and qualities, this may lead to wasting much of our time on choosing one item. In addition to that, the original product might disappear between all these distinct products. For example, when I need a watch, I get confused because there are many watches available and it takes quite a lot of my time to choose one of them.

In the light of the aforementioned points, at present, there is a significant number of options available. I agree to some extent with this trend because it provides us many chances to pick up the best item and also it takes much of our time seeking between products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree “to a point” that people have many choices, and you discuss both the benefits of selecting products and the drawbacks of time spent choosing and the possible loss of original products. The TV and watch examples make the discussion relevant to everyday experience. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. In particular, “the original product might disappear” is an interesting concern, but the essay does not clarify what counts as an original product or explain how variety causes it to disappear. The point about having “many chances to pick up the best item” could also be developed with a specific benefit. Explain these claims more precisely and connect each example directly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different effects, and a concluding summary. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the contrast, while “For instance” introduces examples. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. The sentence beginning “Thus, compared to many years ago” does not clearly follow from the TV example, and “In addition to that” introduces a point that could be linked more explicitly to the effect of product variety. The conclusion repeats the main ideas rather than drawing them together. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and make the progression within each paragraph more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “options,” “qualities,” “traditional shops,” “distinct products,” and “confused.” These choices allow you to discuss both consumer choice and its disadvantages. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “In the light of the aforementioned points,” though this sounds less natural than the rest of the essay. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “a different number of brands on the table,” “get loss,” and “seeking between products” do not express your intended meaning naturally. There is also a spelling error in “requirments.” Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “a wide range of brands,” “feel overwhelmed,” and “compare products.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as,” “because,” and “if.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the examples are expressed in complete sentences. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect clarity. For example, “a variety of companies produce items” needs a relative structure such as “companies that produce items,” while “regardless the product type” requires “regardless of the product type.” In “this may lead to wasting much of our time,” the construction would be more natural as “may lead us to waste a lot of time.” There are also issues with articles and sentence construction in “we have a different number of brands.” Review clause formation, prepositions, and article use, while continuing to practise varied sentence patterns.
