Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, there are numerous options available to us. I completely agree with this statement. I believe it is happening because of the recent developments in technology and the growth of the market economy.
Technological advancements have created varieties of choices for us especially in the shopping and dinning industries. Recently, online shopping platforms and food delivery applications are gaining popularity worldwide. These platforms host various products across multiple categories. Consequently, people have numerous options available for them, and it becomes difficult to make a choice even for a lunch order. For example, a recent survey found that people usually spend 45 minutes a day browsing online shopping and food delivery platforms online.
Moreover, the market economy is growing everyday internationally. Market economy drives competitions in the market, because of that, businesses will always compete with each other by innovating and launching new products and services every day. As a result, there will be several options for consumers to choose. For instance, competitions between smartphone vendors have led to several smart phone models being released every month.
In conclusion, I fully agree that we have too many choices nowadays. In my opinion, this is mainly because of the recent developments in technology such as online shoppping and food delivery platforms and fierce competitions that come with the ever growing market economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons—technology and market competition—and support them with examples of shopping and food-delivery platforms and smartphone models. This addresses the task, but the ideas are not developed equally fully: the survey example about spending 45 minutes browsing is asserted without explaining how this demonstrates that the choices are excessive or burdensome. The competition paragraph also mainly shows that more products exist, rather than exploring why this amounts to too many choices. The response is 30 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to extend your reasoning. Explain the effects on consumers and develop at least one example in more detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from technology to market competition is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links can feel mechanical, and some connections between claims need clearer handling. For example, “Market economy drives competitions in the market, because of that” joins ideas awkwardly, while “Consequently” introduces a result without fully explaining why browsing time proves that choice is excessive. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the cause-and-effect links explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “technological advancements,” “online shopping platforms,” “market economy,” and “consumers.” These terms make the main ideas clear, and some choices, such as “fierce competitions,” show an attempt to be more specific. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “dinning industries” is an incorrect spelling, “drives competitions” is unnatural, and “smart phone” is usually written as one word. “Options” and “choices” are also repeated frequently, with limited variation. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; you could use terms such as “product range,” “consumer choice,” or “market rivalry” where they fit the meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a result clause beginning “Consequently” and a relative clause in “competitions between smartphone vendors have led to several…models.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors rarely prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, however. In “Market economy drives competitions in the market, because of that,” the comma joins two independent clauses incorrectly; use a full stop or restructure the sentence. “There will be several options” shifts into a future form even though the paragraph describes a general present-day pattern. There are also occasional issues with articles and number, as in “Market economy” and “drives competitions.” Practise accurate clause joining and maintain consistent tense when describing general facts.
