Student answer (Band 5.5)

"Some people beleive that nowadays we have too many choices", I fairly agree with this statement. the reason is the world is developing day by day and many new things are being discovered and invented. So this relatively increases our choices in almost every aspect of our lives. If we take the example of food, there are tonnes of varieties of food nowadays such as Continental, Asian, South Asian, Korean, Mexican, British and so many more. These all taste are quite unique in taste and come from whole different origins. So we get to choose among the type of food we want to eat as there are no limitations or restrictions and we get multiple choices.

Another example is in terms of education, in early times people were more focused on pure sciences and arts, as other branches of science were not introduced properly and people had only limited choices. But nowadays, different branches of biology like microbiology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering and several others are introduced. In physics, we can go into astro physics, quantum physics etc. In chemistry, there re multiple options like organic and inorganic. So people get to have so many choices even in education.

This choice improves lives and creates diversity among people of different regions, cultures, or backgrounds. In today's world, choice is everywhere; in clothing, in education, in food, in lifestyles, and so many aspects of our lives. Too many choices often create a confused state of mind, however it also brings varieties and options to choose from which creates diversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that modern life offers many choices, and you support this with examples from food and education. These examples are relevant and show how options have expanded across different areas. You also acknowledge a drawback—too many choices can cause confusion—while noting benefits such as diversity. However, the discussion of this drawback is brief, and the conclusion does not fully explain how you weigh it against the benefits. Some examples, particularly the lists of food types and scientific fields, are named rather than developed with specific explanation or personal experience. To strengthen the response, explain more fully why the choices are excessive and what effects they have, then make your final degree of agreement more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a generally understandable structure: it introduces your view, gives examples from food and education, and ends with a broader comment on choice. The examples are grouped into separate paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the main topics. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the food paragraph repeats the idea of having multiple choices, while the education paragraph mainly lists fields without showing how the example advances the argument. Linking phrases such as “Another example” and “however” are useful, but connections between claims could be clearer and less formulaic. Develop each paragraph around one main point, explain the example’s significance, and make the final paragraph a more direct synthesis of your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “varieties,” “limitations,” “branches,” “diversity,” and “backgrounds.” The subject-specific terms in the education example also help make the discussion concrete. However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive, such as “These all taste are quite unique in taste,” “pure sciences,” and “choice is everywhere.” There are also spelling errors, including “beleive” and “astro physics,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and avoid repeating “choices” and “options” when a more precise expression is available. For example, describe the range as “an expanding selection” and explain that it can “make decision-making more difficult.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “however,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For instance, “the reason is the world is developing” needs clearer clause structure, and “These all taste are” has an incorrect verb pattern. The opening also begins a new sentence with lowercase “the,” while the quotation and following comma are awkwardly punctuated. In “there re multiple options,” the verb form is incorrect. Review sentence boundaries and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to read.
