Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the past, some people believe that the choices were limited, while some argue that in recent years people have a wide range of options. I completely agree with this view because technological advancements have made people's live easier by giving variety of choices, which was once limited.

One major reason is that the advancements in techonology have brought a wide range of choices in people's lives. Some people previously donot have enough options to avail and they unfortunately ended up in the given choices. However, today, an increasing number of people are availing the opportunities which technology has brought in their lives. They are aware of different education fields and departments where they can choose their desired subjects. Furthermore, the internet has made these choices available for people in much wider way. It is now a platform to search about everything and then choose according to your need. For instance, many people these days follow social media platforms where they might meet different people from various educational backgrounds who can guide them and help them in choosing between certain education fields.

Another reason is that, previously individuals were given limited options to avail such as parents usually asked their children to study either science or enginneering in higher education. However, this trend has now changed quietly because many parents can now understand the importance of giving options to their children. This is because children with the independent choices may find it easy to choose subjects which they find interesting and encourage them to excel in certain fields in the future, rather than the children who are forced to study specific subjects. Therefore, people these days are much more independent and can choose between two things.

In conclusion, I largely agree that people these days have many choices rather than in the past. Parents support may help children to become independent and successful in the future, whereas technology made it easier to choose between different fields in education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and the conclusion maintains that view. You give relevant reasons, especially the role of technology in widening access to information and the change in parents’ attitudes towards children’s subject choices. The education examples help explain how choice has increased. However, the response focuses almost entirely on education, so it does not fully explore the broader claim that people have too many choices nowadays. The point about social media guiding people towards educational fields is relevant but could be explained more precisely, and the second reason mainly shows that choice is beneficial rather than why there may be too much of it. Develop the “too many” aspect and support each reason with a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Topic sentences such as “One major reason” and “Another reason” make the progression easy to follow, and linking expressions including “Furthermore,” “However,” and “Therefore” help connect points. At times, though, these transitions feel mechanical, and some references are not fully clear. For example, “these choices” and “the given choices” do not identify exactly which options are meant. The conclusion also repeats the main ideas rather than drawing them together or addressing the tension in “too many choices.” Use more precise referencing and build clearer links between each example and the central claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “technological advancements,” “educational backgrounds,” “independent choices,” and “excel.” These expressions allow you to discuss education and changing opportunities, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “avail the opportunities,” “in much wider way,” and “changed quietly.” There are also spelling errors, including “techonology” and “enginneering,” and some repetition of “choices” and “options.” These issues limit precision and naturalness, even though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. Aim for more idiomatic combinations and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “where,” and “which.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the longer sentences show an attempt to explain relationships between ideas. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “people’s live easier” has an agreement/form problem, while “Some people previously donot have” uses an incorrect verb form and spacing. In “children with the independent choices may find it easy to choose subjects which they find interesting and encourage them,” the structure makes it unclear what “encourage” refers to. Review verb forms, articles, and sentence construction, and check that pronouns and clauses clearly refer to the intended subject.
