Student answer (Band 5.5)

As world has progressed forward, there have been many developments in all areas, such as beauty, fashion, lifestyle, education and etc. Which has lead to some people believing that nowadays we have to many choices to choose from. I some what disagree with this statment mainly because, I believe development has lead to advancments that redeem previous choices uselss, which means that there are generally few choices that are actually useful.

In the area of education, new developments has led to many new fields to choose from, such as

aerospace engineering, mechatronis engineering. Now these fields are quite new, which means that they are few fields in which a person can have highest chances of succeding and inovating. Older fields such as mechanical enginnering are very saturated which rules it out of choices for any logical person. This can also be understood with lifestyle changes, new developments has also changed lifestyle for many people. Locals who previously used to live in villages have now upgraded their lifestyle by shifting to newly developed urban cities. Morever, introduction of electrical appliances have reduced the time that used to consumed doing house work. Which means that choosing to do those chores by hand can be time taking, so now more than ever we have free time, which tend to bore people out which can led them to believe that we have more choices now, but the case it that we haven't changed our choices, but we have upgraded to them to something more better and efficent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You state a position—“I some what disagree”—and give reasons connected to education and lifestyle, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the argument only partially answers whether people have too many choices: the education example suggests that some fields are more useful than others, while the lifestyle example shifts to having more free time and upgrading choices. The link between these points and the number of choices available is not consistently explained. The claim that saturated fields are ruled out “for any logical person” is also broad and unsupported. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how developments affect the range of choices and why this means the range is not excessive, then support each main reason with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction followed by a main paragraph that develops education and lifestyle examples, and linking expressions such as “In the area of education” and “This can also be understood” help signal shifts. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because two distinct examples are combined in one long paragraph, and the connection between them is not made explicit. The final sentence introduces free time and boredom before returning to the claim about choices, which makes the argument feel repetitive and unclear. Some links are also awkward or incomplete, such as the opening “Which has lead” and the sentence beginning “Which means.” Use separate body paragraphs for the two reasons, and make each paragraph’s central point and connection to your position clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “aerospace engineering,” “saturated,” “electrical appliances,” and “lifestyle,” which gives the response some range beyond basic language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “advancments,” “useless,” “time taking,” and “more better” are examples. Some expressions are also vague, such as “redeem previous choices,” which does not clearly convey how developments change people’s options. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “make older options less attractive” or “time-consuming” would help communicate your ideas clearly while retaining an appropriate academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “which means” and “because,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in examples such as “new developments has led” and “which can led them,” while sentence boundaries are often faulty: “Which has lead…” and “Which means…” are fragments when used as separate sentences. The opening also needs an article and clearer sentence structure (“As world has progressed forward”). These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and complete sentences, especially after full stops. Breaking the long lifestyle sentence into shorter, correctly punctuated sentences would also improve accuracy and readability.
