Student answer (Band 5.5)

At this time I think we have too many choices and many old people say we have too many choices in this time. Old people people said this. Because he said before ten years we see many problems and we see many dificulites for pass the life. Now, I agree this statement and I describe the main reasons.

Nowadays, I see many facilites for our life and I see a life before fiften years people pass the life in some little choices because old people have not good hospital and not excellent roads. Some areas not have a good school for children. Students pass the school life and some student carry on the study but these area have no any college for the higher studies. But I see in this time city or village we have a good School, College and the so many good roads. Many big cities I see big shopping malls and big universities for us.

Moreover, I see when we purchase a thing we have a many chocies for intense we purchase a AC and we see many models and many compinies. When we purchase the moterbike we see many good moterbikes and we have a many choices because at this time we purchase a thing or we make a plan we have a too many choices. Last month I purchase a house for me and I see one house and this house is average but I need house so I think I buy the house at this time but my father said we have a many choices so, we check the more houses. This reason I agree the statement at this time we have a too many choices.

In my opinion, at this time when we make a desicion or we purchase we not hurry because at this timr we have a too mny choices. So we see many things then make a plan or buy a thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear by the end of the introduction: “I agree this statement,” and you return to this view in the conclusion. The examples about shopping for an air conditioner or motorbike and comparing houses are relevant to the idea of having many choices. However, the response only partly develops the task. Much of the second paragraph discusses improvements in hospitals, roads, schools and universities, which shows increased facilities more than the effects of having too many choices. The claim that choices make people “not hurry” is also introduced late and not explained. To strengthen the response, focus on the consequences of choice—such as difficulty deciding or fear of making the wrong decision—and explain each example more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two main paragraphs and a concluding paragraph. “Moreover” signals an additional point, and the house-purchase story gives the final body paragraph a concrete example. However, progression between ideas is uneven: the discussion moves from modern facilities to consumer choice without clearly showing how the first point supports the argument. Several links are repetitive or awkward, including repeated use of “at this time” and “we have a many choices,” while “This reason” does not clearly connect the example to the claim. Organise each body paragraph around one reason, then use clear references and linking phrases to show how the example supports it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to everyday choices, including “models,” “companies,” “shopping malls” and “universities,” and the examples make your meaning generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “choices,” “good” and “at this time.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “dificulites,” “chocies,” “moterbike” and “desicion,” which can slow the reader. Some expressions are not natural in context, for example “pass the life” and “for intense.” Build a more precise range for discussing decision-making and consumer options, and check spelling and collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple patterns, and you attempt to connect ideas with clauses using “because” and “when.” However, the range is limited, and attempts at longer sentences often contain frequent grammatical errors that can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “we have a many choices” has an incorrect article and plural construction, while “we purchase a thing or we make a plan we have a too many choices” lacks clear clause structure. There are also problems with agreement and verb forms in “some areas not have” and “some student carry on.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses with clear punctuation and consistent tense.
