Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era, people are thinking that they have vast number of choices available in their surroundings. Nowadays, people have different number of categories available as per their demands, Which is more beneficial in some cases. I agree with the statement and I will discuss that why we have so many choices at this time and how it benefits us in today's time.

Initially, the main reason to make varieties are because of people's preference over unique products or appliances, which they want to have it. Therefore, companies are manufacturing various things, which is attracted to customers. In additon, at some places having so many choices can make differences in while making decisions. For example, well-known fashion brands invent new products as per the trends for that particular thing and the uniqueness motivates customer to buy the products with so many choices available. As a result, People wants to try a new thing and companies are trying to match their similarity, and when they will match the public preferences, then it will make a new product with different choices.

Furthermore, there are several advantages for having to many choices. Firstly, person can replace things easily because the same thing is available in the market as per person's choice. For example, Soap, Brush, Clothes, Towel etc.. Secondly, to many choices stop monopolies in businesses, which can help to sustain small businesses and other competition. For example, if product is made by only one company then they will sell on their prices without understanding customers but if we have more than one company then they will not raise the prices because all the people will be diverted to the other company for buying. As a result, Choices help people to buy their products in their budget with satisfaction of their own choices.

To conclude, I agree with the statement and I gave few reasons and benefits with an example, which gives information about why people have too many choices nowadays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that people have many choices, and you give relevant reasons, including product variety and competition between businesses. The examples of fashion brands and alternative soap or clothing products help illustrate your points. However, the response only partly develops the task: it explains why companies offer variety and some benefits, but does not explore whether having too many choices can also create problems, such as confusion or decision fatigue. Some claims are also unclear or insufficiently explained, particularly “having so many choices can make differences in while making decisions.” To strengthen the response, address the idea of “too many” directly and develop each main point with a clearer explanation and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The sequence from reasons for product variety to its advantages is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Firstly” and “To conclude” help show the stages of the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections between ideas are not always clear. For example, the sentence beginning “As a result, People wants to try a new thing” does not clearly follow from the preceding explanation about companies matching preferences. The conclusion mainly repeats the introduction rather than drawing the argument together. Use clearer references and transitions between cause, example and result, and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “preference,” “unique products,” “monopolies,” “competition” and “public preferences.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For instance, “vast number of choices” needs an article, while “different number of categories” and “match their similarity” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “People wants” also reflects a word-form problem, and “additon” is misspelled. Aim for more precise phrases such as “a wide range of options,” “meet consumer preferences” and “encourage competition,” and check spelling and repeated use of “choices” and “products.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “because,” “which” and “if,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “people wants,” “companies are manufacturing various things, which is attracted,” and “if product is made by only one company.” The opening sentence, “I will discuss that why,” also has an incorrect clause structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are uneven, as in “Which” and “People” after commas, and the list ending “etc..” To improve, practise accurate subject–verb agreement and article use, and build shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses.
