Student answer (Band 5.5)

A few individuals are of the opinion that today we have so many options to take. In my opinion I strongly agree with this view because for instance in Christianity there are various churches one can choose to attend and when it comes to dressing people have different tastes and preference and hence the need to choose.

Firstly, religion has spread across many regions especially Africa. This has led to a emergence of various houses of prayer since they have different doctrines. Forexample we have Anglican Churches, full Gospel, Grace chapels and catholic which have variety of believers.

Moreover, when it comes to fashion people choose types of attires depending on occasion and weather. Culture and environment also dictates what to put on. To illustrate this, during the rainy season people may make a choice of raincoats or umbrellas, heavy jackets or woolen sweaters, gumboots or boot shoes.

ultimately, when it comes to food, people still have choices to go for. Hotels prepare dishes of kinds for customers to decide on. Doctors also advise their patients to consume particular delicacies for the benefits of their health. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that people have many choices, and you give examples involving religion, clothing and food. These examples are relevant, but they mostly list options rather than explain how having many choices affects people or why this is a significant feature of life today. The discussion of food also ends mid-sentence, so that point is not completed. The response is 37 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons and examples. To strengthen the response, explain each example more fully and address the implications of choice, while ensuring the final paragraph and conclusion are complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction followed by separate paragraphs on religion, fashion and food. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover” and “ultimately” help signal the movement between points. However, the overall progression is limited: the paragraphs introduce different examples without building a connected argument, and there is no completed conclusion to bring the position together. Some links are mechanical, and the final paragraph stops abruptly at “choose from d,” disrupting the flow. Develop a clear central line of reasoning, connect each example to that argument, and finish with a concluding sentence that restates your view.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “doctrines,” “attires,” “occasion,” “rainy season” and “obesity,” which helps communicate examples across several areas. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “options to take,” “houses of prayer” and “dishes of kinds.” There are also spelling and form issues, including “Forexample,” and repeated use of “choose” and “choice.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they reduce precision and flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and vary your wording—for example, describe the range of options available and explain what people can select from.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “when it comes to fashion” and a clause explaining doctors’ advice. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “a emergence” needs the correct article, and “Culture and environment also dictates” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also joins several ideas with “and” without clear punctuation, making it difficult to follow. The final sentence is incomplete, so its grammatical structure cannot be fully understood. Check articles and agreement, use punctuation to separate ideas, and ensure every sentence is complete.
