Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people in the world think that there has been a lot of choices available nowadays. In my opinion, this will benefit a person that he has a chance to explore many things in his life.

No one is restricted to do a certain job which they are not interested. Even a student has a lot of opportunitites after he has completed his higher secondary school education. He is not bound to a small space. He has the choice of learning whatever he is interested. For instance, he can do higher studies as his major while pursuing his hobby as a passion. This will shape a students body and mind. On the other hand, a graduate has a choice to himself whether to start his own company or to join a company and learn from them.

Even a businessman has as many choices in his life. He needs to decide how to increase the profit of his company as there are various ways to do so. He can do whatever he wants with his shares that he has been holding. He just wants to choose the best choice which will give him profit. A woman has a large number of opportunities even after her marriage. She is not restricted to be inside the house to do household chores. She can come out to shape the society however she wants. This is only due to the presence of choices in her life.

In conclusion, it is good to have a lot of choices and the best thing is we already have that. We just need to decide which is the best one for us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree that having many choices is a problem, and the examples about students, graduates, businesspeople and women are relevant to the topic. However, the response mainly lists ways people can make choices rather than explaining whether modern society has too many of them or why having more choices is beneficial overall. Several points are asserted briefly—for example, that choices “will shape a students body and mind”—without showing how this happens. The discussion of business shares is also not clearly connected to the central argument. To strengthen the response, address the idea of “too many” directly, develop fewer examples with explanation, and acknowledge a possible drawback before explaining why your view still holds.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs give examples, and a conclusion restates your position. The examples are grouped by type of person, which gives the essay an overall arrangement. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes list-like, and the links between examples and your main claim are not always explicit. For instance, the shift from students to graduates is abrupt, while “On the other hand” suggests a contrast that is not clearly established. Repeated openings such as “Even a…” also make the development feel mechanical. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main reason, then explain how each example supports it; use linking phrases only when their relationship is accurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “opportunities,” “higher studies,” “shares,” and “household chores.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “pursuing his hobby as a passion.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “choice” and “choose,” and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “a lot of choices available,” “a small space,” and “choose the best choice.” The spelling “opportunitites” is also noticeable. Aim for more precise alternatives and natural collocations, such as “a wide range of options,” “limited opportunities,” and “select the most suitable option.” This would make the argument clearer and less repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the best choice which will give him profit” and a conditional-style explanation beginning “as there are various ways to do so.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some errors in sentence structure and agreement reduce accuracy. For example, “this will benefit a person that he has a chance” needs a clearer construction, while “a students body” has incorrect possessive and number marking. In “whether to start his own company or to join a company and learn from them,” the pronoun reference is inconsistent. Practise building complex sentences around one clear main clause, and check articles, possessives, agreement and pronoun references during revision.
