Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response effectively addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. You have successfully highlighted the dominance of China and the USA, and correctly identified the anomaly regarding Germany's consumption. The data is accurately reported, and the comparisons between production and consumption are clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is even more distinct; while you have an overview paragraph, integrating a slightly more analytical summary of the trends (such as the general gap between production and consumption across the top ten) would strengthen the response. Overall, the information is well-selected and relevant.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the data effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the top two countries to the rest of the list. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'respectively', and 'among the remaining countries' are used appropriately to link information. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different groups of countries. The flow is natural, and the reader can easily follow the comparison between production and consumption figures throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information precisely. Terms like 'generating', 'consuming', 'exception', and 'respectively' are used correctly. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To improve, you could incorporate more varied synonyms for 'production' and 'consumption' (e.g., 'output', 'usage', 'demand') to avoid repetition. The use of 'billion kilowatt-hours' is accurate and appropriate for the context of the task. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and shows a good level of control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. While there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'higher then' (should be 'than') and 'the united states' (needs capitalization), these do not impede meaning. The sentence structure is generally sound, and the use of commas for lists and comparisons is mostly accurate. To achieve a higher score, ensure consistent capitalization of proper nouns and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, such as in the phrase 'Germany is the only nation that their consumption is higher'.
