Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data by identifying the top ten countries and their respective production and consumption figures. However, the report is essentially a list of data points rather than a cohesive summary. There is a lack of clear overview or synthesis of the data. While the prompt asks for comparisons, the comparisons made (e.g., '5x less then China') are mathematically inaccurate based on the provided figures. The response focuses heavily on individual data points without grouping them or highlighting significant trends, which limits the development of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no clear logical progression; the information is presented as a series of disjointed sentences. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'In this graph' to start sentences. The lack of transition words or logical grouping of countries means the reader has to work hard to understand the relationship between the data points. The structure is mechanical and lacks the flow expected for an academic report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'used' and 'produce' throughout the text. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or data (e.g., 'accounted for', 'surpassed', 'figures', 'statistics'). Some errors in word choice and form, such as 'russia is produce' instead of 'Russia produced', hinder the precision of the report. The range is just sufficient to convey the basic meaning but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response consists almost entirely of simple sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and the grammar is frequently inaccurate. Common errors include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'russia is produce'), missing articles, and incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'used' instead of 'consumption'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical errors and the lack of structural variety significantly impact the quality of the writing.
