Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features and provided some data, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly in the final paragraph. The overview is present but lacks sufficient detail to fully satisfy the task requirements. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis of all data points and provide a more thorough comparison of the trends. The failure to finish the final sentence and the under-length nature of the response prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the cohesion is weakened by the incomplete final sentence and the abrupt ending. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'In contrast', the flow is disrupted by the lack of completion. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully developed within each paragraph and that you use a wider range of linking words to connect your comparisons more smoothly. The current structure is functional but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumption', 'production', and 'significantly'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'built and used' instead of 'produced and consumed', and 'followed from behind'. Additionally, there are minor errors in data presentation, such as the formatting of numbers (e.g., '5.398and 4099'). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data analysis and ensure your numerical data is presented clearly and consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the United States'), incorrect preposition usage, and punctuation issues (e.g., '5.398and 4099'). The final sentence is incomplete, which is a significant grammatical failure. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for basic punctuation and ensuring that every sentence is complete will help you achieve a higher score. The current errors do not entirely impede communication, but they are frequent.
