Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top countries and noting the contrast between production and consumption. However, the reporting is somewhat selective and lacks a comprehensive overview of the data. While the key trend of China leading is mentioned, the comparison between production and consumption for all ten countries is not fully detailed, and some data points are presented in a fragmented manner. The summary of the 'least' country is also slightly confusing in its phrasing. To improve, ensure that all significant data points are clearly grouped and compared rather than listing them individually, which would provide a more analytical summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Follow with that' and 'After that'. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is clear, but the internal flow within the paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the specific figures for Germany and Korea. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the main points. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'electricity generator' instead of 'electricity generation' and 'it usage' instead of 'its usage'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'surpassed', 'exceeded', or 'accounted for', and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The bar chart illustrate'), missing articles, and incorrect pronoun usage ('it usage'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and units. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
