Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the top and bottom countries and comparing production and consumption. However, the overview is weak and repetitive, merely restating the prompt rather than highlighting the most significant trends across the data set. The selection of data is limited; while China and the US are mentioned, the response fails to provide a broader summary of the ten countries listed in the chart. The analysis is somewhat superficial, focusing on individual figures rather than synthesizing the information to show clear patterns. To improve, you should group countries with similar trends and provide a more analytical overview that captures the main features of the entire data set.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the text feel like a single, dense block. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'Moving ahead', the flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of a clear introduction, body, and conclusion structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the data points feels mechanical rather than fluid. To improve, organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the words 'rate' and 'consumption' without much variation. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'the most least rank country', which is grammatically incorrect and unnatural. The phrase 'simultaneously' is used incorrectly to mean 'respectively'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precise terminology and the reliance on basic descriptors prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on using a wider range of synonyms and ensure that collocations are accurate, such as using 'respectively' when listing two sets of data for two different subjects.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with article usage ('the united states', 'the china'), subject-verb agreement ('it is clearly illustrate'), and sentence construction ('The bar chart that is given showing...'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofread for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms. Practicing the use of complex sentences with correct subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your range.
