Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 78 words, it is severely under-developed. While you have identified China and the US as the top producers and consumers, you have not provided a comprehensive summary of the data. Many of the other eight countries listed in the chart are ignored, and the comparisons are too brief to provide a clear overview of the main features. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the task and provide enough detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure. While you attempt to use cohesive devices like 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand', they are used incorrectly as the content does not follow a logical contrast. The paragraphing is non-existent, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. To improve, you should organize your report into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific paragraphs detailing the data. Ensure that each sentence connects logically to the next to guide the reader through your analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'prouduced' and 'capicity'. You rely on basic phrasing to describe the data. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'surpassed', or 'fluctuated'. Additionally, ensure you proofread your work to correct basic spelling mistakes, as these errors hinder the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('the' chart), incorrect verb forms ('are also used'), and punctuation issues. The sentence structures are simple and often fragmented, which limits your ability to convey complex information clearly. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practice writing more complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions to link your ideas more effectively.
