Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the top countries and noting the relationship between production and consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention that China is the largest producer and consumer, you do not provide specific data points to support these claims, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response. The comparison between countries is present but lacks precision; for example, stating 'nearly 600-500 billion kwh' is vague. To improve, ensure you include specific figures from the chart to substantiate your observations and provide a clearer overview of the trends across the ten nations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by informal phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'what's making russia differ from japan'). While the overall arrangement is coherent, the mechanical nature of the linking and the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices limit the flow. Improving the use of linking words such as 'consequently,' 'in contrast,' or 'furthermore' would enhance the structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'big league producer' and 'saving a lot comparative to russia.' Additionally, there are consistent spelling errors, such as 'diffrent' and 'countirres.' While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and the errors in collocation and spelling prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on academic collocations and proofreading for spelling would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('in top of the ranks'), incorrect verb forms ('They producing'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('what makes if diffrent'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
