Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the chart, such as China's leading position and the contrast between production and consumption in Germany. However, the response is slightly hampered by some unclear phrasing, such as the incomplete sentence 'and these two countries. However'. While you have reported the data accurately, the overview could be more cohesive. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully articulated and avoid fragmented sentences. You have covered the key trends and provided sufficient data points to support your summary, which meets the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, there are issues with the flow between sentences. For example, the transition 'and these two countries. However' is grammatically incomplete and disrupts the logical progression. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused, such as starting a sentence with 'and' in the second paragraph. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence is complete will significantly enhance the clarity and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, using terms like 'calibrated', 'consumption', 'generation', and 'net importer'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'highest country to produce' (it should be 'country with the highest production') and 'electrical level'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you can convey information clearly, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with punctuation, missing articles, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Secondy United States also had a electrical level'). Some sentences are poorly constructed, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. To improve, focus on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over these fundamental areas will help you achieve a higher score.
