Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top and bottom countries. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the grouping of Russia, Japan, and India is inaccurate, as the data for these countries varies significantly rather than being a collective total. Additionally, the description of the bottom countries is slightly confusing, as the data for Germany and Korea is presented as a combined ranking rather than individual figures. To improve, ensure that data points are reported with greater precision and that comparisons are based on accurate groupings of the provided statistics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward use of 'Whereas ,' and 'On other hand ,'. There are also issues with punctuation, specifically the placement of commas before conjunctions and unnecessary spaces. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by these mechanical errors, making the flow feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that punctuation does not interrupt the flow of your sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'most popular country' are inappropriate for describing statistical data; 'leading country' or 'highest producer' would be more suitable. There are also errors in word formation, such as 'produced a less electricity' and 'as compered with'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic terms like 'produced' and 'consumed'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and ensure that collocations are used correctly to describe trends and data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect verb forms ('for the produce and utilized'), subject-verb agreement, and article usage ('the united states', 'the least country'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of misplaced commas and spaces. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small grammatical slips will significantly improve your score.
