Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 81 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction and overview are clear, the body paragraph is severely underdeveloped. It only covers the first two countries (China and the US) and fails to report on the remaining eight countries or provide meaningful comparisons across the full data set. To achieve a higher band, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed by including data for all categories and providing a more comprehensive summary of the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is logically organized with an introduction, an overview, and the beginning of a body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'To commence with' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, because the response is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overall progression is interrupted. The paragraphing is appropriate for the length provided, but the lack of completion prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis of all data points and use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your comparisons.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with accurate terms such as 'production', 'consumption', 'generated', and 'utilised'. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary to describe trends and data, such as 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'a significant margin'. The current vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar is generally accurate in the sentences provided, with no major errors that impede communication. You have used a mix of simple and complex structures, such as the introductory clause 'In contrast, Korea was listed last...'. However, the range of structures is limited by the short length of the response. To improve, aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice constructions or relative clauses, and ensure that all sentences are fully completed to demonstrate better control.
