Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the top ten countries and reporting on both production and consumption. The overview is clear, identifying China as the leader and South Korea as the lowest. However, the report is essentially a list of data points. To reach a higher band, you should focus more on meaningful comparisons and grouping data rather than listing each country sequentially. For instance, noting that China and the US are significantly ahead of the other eight countries would provide a more analytical summary of the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Followed by', and 'Lastly' are used to link sentences. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. To improve, try to vary the transition words and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural rather than just a sequence of data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the data. You use terms like 'illustrates', 'production', and 'consumption' correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Korean' instead of 'South Korea' and 'for 5,398' instead of 'at 5,398'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more varied synonyms for 'highest' or 'lowest' and more precise reporting verbs would enhance the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'China saw highest amount' (missing 'the') and 'Germany and Korean had the lowest production... for 526.6' (preposition error). Additionally, there are some issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for articles and prepositions would be beneficial.
