Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the top ten countries and comparing production and consumption. You successfully highlight the extremes (China and Korea Rep.) and note the general trends. However, the data reporting is inconsistent. For instance, you state that Germany consumes more than it produces, but the figures provided (582.5 vs 526.6) actually show the opposite. Additionally, the phrasing 'surged by 5.398 billion' is inaccurate as these are total figures, not growth rates. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed accurately from the chart and that comparisons are logically sound. The overview is present but could be more clearly separated from the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction, body, and conclusion, which provides a logical structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'conversely', and 'in conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing, such as the abrupt transition in the final paragraph. The referencing of countries is generally clear, but the paragraphing is somewhat unbalanced, with the bulk of the information compressed into one paragraph. Using more varied linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a distinct focus would improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'trajectories', 'significant', and 'consumption'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'recorded the most significant figures' is slightly unnatural in this context, and 'pranked' is a clear typo for 'ranked'. There is also some repetition of 'category' and 'billion kWh'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate. Proofreading for minor spelling errors and word-form mistakes will also help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'conversely'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'United states'), incorrect verb forms ('remains almost same'), and punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas). The sentence 'surged by 5.398 billion kWh and 5322 billion kWh, respectively which is by far the highest consumption' is a run-on sentence that lacks proper punctuation. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles will significantly enhance the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
