Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the leading countries (China and USA) and noting the relationship between production and consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention that China and the USA lead, you could have provided a more nuanced comparison of the gap between production and consumption for these top countries. Additionally, the grouping of the remaining eight countries is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly integrated into a cohesive narrative rather than listing figures, and provide a more precise summary of the trends observed across the ten nations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition 'While' is used frequently and sometimes incorrectly, such as in 'While Russia has same rate...'. The connection between sentences could be smoother; some ideas feel like isolated statements rather than a flowing report. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') is used accurately would significantly enhance the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic information about electricity production and consumption. However, the range is limited and there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'leading the proportion' and 'has same rate'. There is also a lack of variety in reporting verbs and descriptive language. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'surpass', 'account for', or 'a significant margin', and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as missing articles ('in China about 5398 billion', 'compared to526.6 billion') and issues with subject-verb agreement or preposition usage ('has same rate'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they indicate a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic articles and ensuring consistent verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
