Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying China as the leader in both production and consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 'United States, India, Canada, France and Brazil saves much electricity' is a misinterpretation of the data, as the chart shows these countries are simply producing more than they consume, not necessarily 'saving' it. Additionally, the comparison between countries is inconsistent, and the grouping of countries in the third paragraph is confusing. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurately reporting the data and highlighting the most significant trends rather than listing individual figures without clear analytical purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences is often mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. For example, the phrase 'After in order Russia, Japan and India are coming' is awkward and lacks clear connection to the previous sentence. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the summary of countries contradicts earlier statements. While the paragraphing is present, the internal flow of ideas needs to be more cohesive to guide the reader effectively through the data comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'saves the electricity' instead of 'produces a surplus' or 'consumes less than it produces'. The repetition of basic verbs like 'produce', 'consume', and 'generate' limits the range. To improve, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'surplus', 'deficit', 'outstrip', or 'account for'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the lack of sophisticated collocations keeps the score in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'The graphs compares' (should be 'compare') and 'China produce' (should be 'produces'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of parentheses for data points, which is not standard in formal report writing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and standardizing punctuation would significantly improve the quality.
