Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying the highest and lowest producers and noting the consumption-production relationship. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies regarding the data provided in the prompt. You stated the year was 2012, whereas the prompt specifies 2014. Furthermore, you listed 'cities' instead of 'countries' and misidentified the units as 'kilowatt hour' rather than 'billion kWh'. While you attempted to compare production and consumption, the lack of precision in reporting the data prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you transcribe the data labels and units exactly as they appear in the source material.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic logical structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical, such as 'Following that' and 'on the other hand'. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the paragraphing could be more effectively used to group the countries by their production-consumption trends. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You used some relevant terms like 'consumption', 'production', and 'generated', but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'highly used by its people' and 'round about'. Additionally, the repetition of basic verbs limits the range. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'surpassed', 'exceeded', or 'marginal difference', and ensure that you use terminology accurately according to the context of the graph.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'nine countries is greater' (subject-verb agreement), 'U.S secure' (missing 's'), and 'Korea,Rep' (punctuation error). There are also issues with article usage and missing prepositions. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your punctuation, particularly with lists and abbreviations, is accurate.
