Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main features, such as the dominance of China and the USA. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention that Russia and Korea show a 'similar trend,' you do not provide specific data points to support this comparison, which is essential for a Band 7 or higher. The description of the data is accurate, but the report lacks a more analytical approach to the differences between production and consumption across the ten countries. To improve, ensure you include more specific figures to substantiate your comparisons rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. For example, the phrase 'similar kind of trend' is used multiple times, which limits the flow. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and referencing expressions to connect your ideas more fluidly and avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the data. You use some appropriate terms like 'illustrates,' 'consumption,' and 'nations.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. Phrases like 'similar kind of trend' and 'showed similar habits' are imprecise. To improve, incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'surpassed,' 'exceeded,' 'marginal difference,' or 'accounted for,' to demonstrate a more sophisticated control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'Russia and Korea production and usage... were approximately same' lacks necessary articles and comparative structures (e.g., 'the production and usage... were approximately the same'). There are also issues with preposition use, such as 'consuming more energy rather than producing it,' which should be 'consuming more energy than producing it.' Improving control over articles and comparative adjectives will help elevate your score.
