Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top producers and consumers. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention China and the USA, the comparisons between countries are often vague or lack sufficient data support. For instance, stating that Russia and Japan remained 'almost similar' is a generalisation that lacks specific numerical evidence from the chart. To reach a higher band, ensure that you select the most significant data points and provide precise comparisons rather than just listing figures. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the clear gap between the top two countries and the rest of the list.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'Lastly', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved. For example, the sentence 'Germany did not surpass by 582.5 billion kWh' is confusing and lacks a clear logical connection to the previous sentence. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that referencing is precise will help achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. Phrases like 'calibrated into billions' and 'expenditure of electricity' are not the most natural choices in this context. Additionally, there are grammatical errors involving word forms, such as 'had produce' instead of 'had produced' and 'very less amount electricity' instead of 'a much smaller amount of electricity'. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'generated', 'consumed', 'surpassed', and 'accounted for', while ensuring correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'China had produce and consumed' (tense error), 'Korea consume and produce very less amount electricity' (missing preposition and incorrect quantifier), and 'Germany did not surpass by 582.5 billion kWh' (unclear meaning). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure often feels disjointed. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for reporting past data, and ensuring that comparative structures are grammatically sound.
