Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively identifies the main features of the data, such as China's leading position and the unique case of Germany. You have successfully selected and reported key comparisons, such as the production-to-consumption ratio in various countries. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; while you mention the highest and lowest consumers, you could have provided a more comprehensive summary of the overall trend, such as the fact that most countries produced more electricity than they consumed. The data is generally accurate, though the reference to 'Korea, rep.' is slightly informal. Overall, the task is well-addressed with clear, relevant data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the top consumers to a comparison of production and consumption trends. Cohesive devices such as 'Secondly', 'Moving further', and 'Notably' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data. While the structure is sound, the flow could be slightly more sophisticated by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the specific data points within the body paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'calibrated into', 'exhibited a similar trend', and 'outpaced consumption' are used accurately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'the lowest proportion of electricity was consumed in Korea, rep.', where 'proportion' is not the most precise term for absolute figures. Additionally, 'the bottom of two positions' is slightly awkward phrasing. However, the vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic report and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and error-free, such as 'Germany was the sole nation where consumption of 582.5 billion kWh exceeded its domestic production'. There are occasional minor errors, such as '4,099 billion kWh was in the production of electricity', which is slightly unidiomatic; it would be more natural to say '4,099 billion kWh was produced'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the grammatical control is sufficient to maintain clarity throughout the report.
