Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top producers and consumers. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state China's production is 5,398 kWh, but the chart indicates 5,398 billion kWh. Furthermore, the comparison between Germany, Brazil, and France is confusingly presented, and the claim that Russia experiences the same production and consumption is not clearly supported by the visual data. While you attempt to highlight key differences, the lack of precision in citing the units and the misinterpretation of some figures prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe data points and focus on clear, comparative summaries rather than listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'Moving further' and 'At a fleeting glance'. The flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as the double periods and inconsistent capitalization. While there is a logical progression from an overview to specific details, the connections between ideas could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors. For example, 'caliberated' is used incorrectly, and 'stimately' is a misspelling of 'estimated'. The repetition of 'production and consumption' is expected in this task, but the lack of varied synonyms for 'highest' or 'lowest' limits the range. There are also issues with unit notation, as you omit 'billion' in several places, which is a key lexical requirement for this data set. To improve, work on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread for spelling and unit accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in korea'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'Russia experience'), and inconsistent capitalization. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and unnecessary double periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent use of articles, and standard punctuation rules.
