Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart, such as the highest and lowest producers. However, the reporting is inconsistent. While you mention China and Korea, the data presentation is often cluttered and lacks a clear, analytical structure. For instance, you list specific figures for the United States and Russia but fail to group or compare them effectively. The conclusion introduces subjective commentary about 'developed' versus 'under-developing' countries, which is not supported by the provided data. To improve, focus on grouping countries by trends rather than listing individual data points, and ensure all observations are strictly derived from the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, such as the jump from the United States to Japan. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, for example, 'as than Russia make' and 'After that Japan'. The referencing is also unclear; phrases like 'same some other countries' do not effectively link ideas. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'similarly', 'whereas') to guide the reader through your comparisons and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'make' and 'use' instead of more precise academic terms like 'generate', 'produce', 'consume', or 'utilize'. There are also errors in word form, such as 'consumption' used as a verb ('make and consumption of electricity') and 'production' used where an adjective or verb might be needed. The range is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms for data-related verbs and nouns will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, such as 'This bar chart illustrate' and 'the consumption are different'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To reach a higher band, you need to practice using complex structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, and pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization rules.
