Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the production and consumption of electricity of top ten countries in 2014. The units are calculated in billion kWh.
Overall, all the countries prioritize production compared to the consumption of electrical except Germany. Subsequently, China and United States are the two most dominant force in terms of production and consumption of electricity at a significant rate, where China leads the chart and United States as the second largest entity.
In terms of China, 5,398 billon kWh electricity produced and they have consumed almost the entire their production. Similar trend can be seen for United States where their production was almost 1000 billion kWh less then China and similar behavior in terms of consumption of power. The power generation of Russia, Japan and India were were significantly lower then the the top two, as their production and consumption amount were between 1000 to 700 billion kWh approximately.
Furthermore, the remaining countries showed more less amount compared to the top five where there value were between 650 to 450 billion kWh. However, Germany showed a distinct behavior as it is the only country to show less production of electricity compared to their consumption. Korea republic showed as the least number of electricity production and consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main features and makes relevant comparisons. You have correctly highlighted the dominance of China and the US and noted the exception of Germany regarding consumption exceeding production. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, stating figures are 'between 1000 to 700 billion kWh' is vague when the chart provides specific values. To reach a higher band, ensure that key data points are accurately cited rather than grouped into broad, imprecise ranges. The overview is clear, but the supporting details could be more analytical by focusing on the specific gaps between production and consumption for the top countries.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'In terms of' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'their production' where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the top producers to the remaining countries. To improve, focus on varying your cohesive devices to ensure the flow between sentences feels more natural and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dominant force', 'distinct behavior', and 'generation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'showed as the least number of electricity production' (should be 'had the lowest production') and 'more less amount' (which is contradictory). There are also minor spelling errors like 'billon'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are grammatically sound within the context of the sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'all the countries prioritize production... except Germany' (missing 'consumption'), 'less then China' (should be 'less than'), and 'were were significantly lower' (repetition). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and comparative structures.
