Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview and identifies key trends, such as the dominance of China and the US. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, Brazil's production is cited as 5307 billion kWh, which is a major misreading of the chart, and the figures for Korea are garbled and repetitive. While the main features are selected, the lack of precision in reporting the data prevents a higher score. The comparison between production and consumption is attempted, but the data errors undermine the accuracy of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific details. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'while', and 'respectively' are used to link ideas. However, the progression within the final paragraph is confusing due to the repetitive and incorrect data presentation. The referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of some transitions and the errors in the final paragraph affect the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'production', 'consumption', and 'respectively'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'top first ranked country' and 'bottom three positions of country'. Some vocabulary is used repetitively, and the errors in the final paragraph (e.g., 'producing is less than consuming more') indicate a lack of precision. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning but lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Canada and France is generating') and awkward sentence construction ('Germany is producing is less than consuming more'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is noticeable and occasionally impedes the reader's ability to follow the data accurately. More attention to proofreading and basic sentence structure is needed.
