Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, identifying the top producers and consumers. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state the 'United Kingdom' ranks second, whereas the chart refers to the 'United States'. Additionally, you mention that 'one country was spent more electricity compare to production', which is a correct observation regarding Germany, but the overall summary lacks precision. While you have selected the main features, the misidentification of countries and some confusing phrasing regarding the data points prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully transcribe the labels from the chart and double-check your comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing, leading to a choppy flow. For example, phrases like 'At last' and 'All country making' are used awkwardly. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors that make the relationship between sentences unclear. While there is an overall attempt at a logical arrangement, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structures limit the coherence of the response. Using a wider variety of transition signals would improve the flow significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'produced' and 'consumption'. There are also instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'creating and spent electricity' instead of 'electricity generation and consumption' and 'distance third' instead of 'a distant third'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word form (e.g., 'manufacture' instead of 'manufacturing') indicate a limited range. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data reporting and ensure correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'All country making', 'china was the largest production') and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Germany produced 526 billion KWH while spent more compare to. production 582.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors in tense and pluralization.
