Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the top producers and consumers and noting the exception of Germany. However, the data presentation is inconsistent. For instance, you mention '800 kWh to 1000 kWh' for Japan, India, and Russia, but the chart units are in billions, and the values for these countries are actually between 800 and 1,000 billion kWh. The inclusion of '4,,099' contains a typographical error. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting figures and the slight inaccuracy in units prevent a higher band score. Ensure all data points are transcribed accurately from the source.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'On one hand', and 'On the other hand' helps guide the reader through the information. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors, such as 'One one hand' and the incomplete sentence 'rep produced'. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the groups of countries could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumption', 'production', and 'accounted for'. However, there are several spelling errors ('enegry', 'nrearly') and word choice issues, such as 'remained lowest' instead of 'remained lower'. The repetition of 'production and consumption' throughout the text limits the lexical variety. To improve, try to use synonyms or alternative structures to describe the data, such as 'electricity generation' or 'usage levels', and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('china and america are the two top countries accounted for', 'countries... remains the countries') and punctuation errors ('4,,099'). The use of articles is also inconsistent ('the electricity', 'the year 2014'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful attention to basic sentence construction and grammatical accuracy.
