Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the highest and lowest countries. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention China and Korea, the description of the other countries is vague. For instance, stating that countries like Japan and India show 'similar growth' is inaccurate, as the chart shows a snapshot in time (2014), not a trend over time. Additionally, the data interpretation for Brazil and Germany is confusing and does not accurately reflect the provided figures. To improve, ensure you accurately report the data points and focus on clear comparisons rather than describing static data as 'growth'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the use of 'whereas' and 'while' is sometimes forced, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where 'expenditure' is used to describe electricity consumption, which is not standard terminology in this context. Improving the use of cohesive devices would help the ideas connect more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally inaccurate. You use terms like 'maker' and 'expenditure' to describe electricity production and consumption, which are not appropriate collocations in this context. Phrases like 'highest top rank country' are redundant. While you successfully use some numerical data, the lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'generated', 'consumed', 'output', and 'usage', and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Brazil and Germany shows') and incorrect prepositional usage ('incline from... to...'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity, such as 'China is the dominating country that produced and utilized electricity is...'. The misuse of articles and tense consistency (e.g., 'is' instead of 'was' for 2014 data) also detracts from the overall accuracy. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
