Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the top ten countries and highlighting key trends such as China's dominance and Germany's unique consumption-to-production ratio. The overview is clear and effectively summarizes the main features. However, the data reporting is slightly inconsistent; for instance, the grouping of Canada, France, and Brazil as having 'almost same rates' is a good analytical attempt, but the specific figures provided for these countries are somewhat vague and lack the precision expected in a Band 7+ response. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific countries mentioned, avoiding generalizations that might obscure the actual figures provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized, moving from an overview to specific data points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general summary from the detailed analysis. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Overall,' 'while,' and 'respectively,' which help guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the general overview and the specific data could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes slightly unclear, particularly when discussing the group of three countries (Canada, France, and Brazil). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'production,' 'consumption,' and 'respectively' used correctly. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'best ten countries to produced' (should be 'top ten countries for producing') and 'The United State stand as the second large electricity produced' (should be 'second largest electricity producer'). These errors show a lack of precision in word formation and collocation. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that word forms (e.g., noun vs. verb) are used accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'countries to produced' and 'only country consumed' (should be 'only country that consumed'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'The United State' (should be 'The United States'). These errors occur throughout the text and, while they do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
