Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the chart, such as the leading positions of China and the United States and the anomaly of Germany's consumption exceeding production. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While you mention that most countries produce more than they consume, the report would benefit from a more analytical summary of the trends rather than just listing figures. Additionally, some data points are presented without units (e.g., '485.1'), which makes the information less precise. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, comparative overview in the introduction or conclusion that highlights the overall relationship between production and consumption across the top ten nations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'However' to signal shifts in the data. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the final sentence is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear link to the preceding analysis. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the comparison of countries more fluidly. Overall, the structure is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'production capacity', 'consumption', and 'leading'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'is on the number one' instead of 'ranks first' and 'usage is' instead of 'consumption is'. The phrase 'top countries electricity development' is also slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms for 'high' and 'low' would also enhance the quality of your report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('It create', 'United States are') and awkward phrasing ('By the reviewing this bar chart'). There are also missing articles and prepositional errors throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy to demonstrate better control over your writing.
