Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top countries and comparing production and consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, stating that Russia and Japan have the 'same ratio' is inaccurate based on the visual data, and the description of the data is occasionally imprecise. While the task is addressed, the lack of clear grouping and the reliance on listing specific figures without sufficient synthesis prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on identifying clear trends and grouping countries with similar characteristics rather than describing them individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The transition between sentences is often mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. For instance, the phrase 'There's a noticeable thing in Germany' is informal and lacks a clear link to the previous point. The conclusion is also somewhat repetitive, merely restating points already made rather than synthesising the information. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would help create a more cohesive and professional structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good performance' and 'poor performance', which are not appropriate for describing statistical data. Additionally, there are word-choice errors, such as 'making rate' instead of 'production rate' and 'there consumption' instead of 'their consumption'. To reach a higher band, you should use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'surpass', 'exceed', or 'marginal difference'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'The bar graph illustrate' and 'there consumption rate is high'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct article usage would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
