Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top producers and consumers. You successfully highlighted China's dominance and made relevant comparisons between countries. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, you stated Russia and China produced similar amounts, but the figures provided (1057 vs 936) are quite distinct. Additionally, the comparison for consumption between China and Russia is mathematically incorrect based on the chart data. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed accurately and that comparisons are logically sound. The overview is present but could be more analytical by focusing on the clear gap between the top two countries and the rest of the group.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for production and consumption. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'moving on', and 'regarding' are used to guide the reader through the data. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in referencing and some mechanical phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main themes. To improve, ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother and that the logical progression of data points does not feel like a simple list of numbers, but rather a cohesive narrative of the trends shown in the chart.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'utilization', 'competitor', and 'demand'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'billon' instead of 'billion' and 'a the top' instead of 'at the top'. These errors do not impede communication but prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure consistent spelling throughout the text. Incorporating more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'marginal difference', would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'what was the trend of' (which is slightly awkward) and 'China was a the top'. There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which allows for clear communication. To achieve a higher score, aim for greater control over complex structures and ensure that subject-verb agreement and article usage are consistently accurate. Proofreading for small slips in tense and word order will also help improve your overall accuracy.
