Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of providing an objective summary of the data, the student includes irrelevant personal anecdotes about toys and smartphones, which are not present in the chart. While the main features (China and USA) are identified, the description of the remaining countries is merely a list without meaningful comparison or analysis. The task requires a formal, analytical report, but the inclusion of subjective opinions and external information significantly detracts from the task achievement. The response lacks a clear overview of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The transition between the data description and the personal commentary is abrupt and confusing. Paragraphing is used, but the content within the paragraphs is not well-organized. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the awkward phrasing 'And with the look of the lower side of the bar chart'. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended message. The response lacks a clear introduction and a cohesive summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'in the competition with', 'holding up on', and 'from very past' are unnatural and imprecise. There is a reliance on informal language and repetitive structures. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical data, opting instead for conversational fillers. To improve, the student needs to focus on academic collocations and more sophisticated vocabulary related to data interpretation, such as 'surpass', 'account for', or 'significant disparity'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'In the chart itself shows that...', which is a redundant and incorrect construction. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and spaces. The use of capitalization is erratic (e.g., 'Not', 'Holding', 'Respectively'). The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent throughout the text.
