Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the overall trend where China leads in both categories and the notable exception of Germany. You have selected relevant data points to support your summary and made clear comparisons between the countries. The overview is concise and effectively highlights the key patterns. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently include all ten countries mentioned in the prompt, as you omitted some countries from the list in your detailed body paragraphs. However, the information provided is accurate and well-selected for an IELTS Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'respectively,' and 'in terms of' to guide the reader through the data. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the top-ranked countries to specific comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. The use of referencing is generally clear, though ensuring that every transition feels natural rather than mechanical would further enhance the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'ranked first,' 'led in respect of,' and 'exceptional case' are used appropriately. You also handle numerical data and units of measurement correctly. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'production' and 'consumption' (e.g., 'generation,' 'output,' 'usage,' 'demand') to avoid repetition. While the vocabulary is accurate and fits the context well, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would help elevate the response to a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Your control over grammar is generally strong, with few errors. For example, the use of 'where consumption was greater than production' is a well-constructed relative clause. There are minor slips, such as the sentence 'An exceptional case in Germany where consumption was higher than production,' which lacks a main verb. Despite this, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is used effectively to manage complex information. The grammatical control is consistent throughout the text.
