Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying China and the USA as the leaders. However, the reporting is inconsistent and lacks analytical depth. While you mention the top five and the remaining five, the presentation of data is often repetitive and lacks clear comparison. For instance, you list figures for each country individually rather than grouping them to highlight trends or significant differences. To reach a higher band, you should focus on synthesizing the information—comparing production versus consumption across the countries—rather than simply listing the numbers provided in the chart. The overview is present but could be more detailed regarding the specific relationship between production and consumption.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, such as 'According to bar chart we will talk about...'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the structure within paragraphs feels like a list of data points rather than a cohesive summary. To improve, use linking words like 'conversely', 'in contrast', or 'similarly' to connect ideas. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs to be more fluid to guide the reader through the comparison of the data effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the words 'production' and 'consumption'. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'in both the cases whirl' (likely a typo for 'while') and 'this country almost same production use'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate precision. To improve, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns to describe the data, such as 'outstripped', 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'figures for'. The current lexical range is adequate for basic communication but lacks the flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('According to bar chart'), subject-verb agreement issues ('United States have'), and awkward sentence construction ('China has production 5,389 and consumption is about 5,322'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structures limits the score. You should focus on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting more complex ones, and pay closer attention to proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
