Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top ten countries for production and consumption. However, the analysis is largely a list of figures rather than a synthesis of information. While you mention the highest and lowest, you miss opportunities to make meaningful comparisons, such as noting that consumption generally follows production levels or highlighting the significant gap between China/USA and the other eight nations. The overview is also weak, as it merely restates the prompt rather than highlighting the key trends. To improve, focus on grouping data and identifying patterns rather than listing every individual value.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, particularly the reliance on 'respectively' and simple lists. The transition between the production and consumption paragraphs is abrupt. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body and conclusion, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences connect more fluidly would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'counries', 'calender yer', and 'Consupmtion'. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'accounted for' and 'measured with'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'surpassed', 'ranked', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant margin'. Additionally, ensure that units of measurement are used consistently and correctly throughout the text to avoid confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'The ten countries counsists of' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'It is clearly evitable' is an incorrect word choice (likely meant 'evident'). There are also issues with preposition usage and article omission. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and correct word forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
