Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying the top producers and consumers like China and the US. However, the analysis is somewhat limited. You mention only two countries in detail, whereas the task asks to summarize the top ten. The comparison between production and consumption is attempted, but the calculation of 'saved' electricity is a misinterpretation of the data, as the chart shows production and consumption as separate metrics rather than a surplus/deficit calculation. To reach a higher band, ensure you group the data more effectively and provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends across the ten countries rather than focusing on just two.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into an introduction, body, and conclusion, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'In the year 2014' is used frequently). Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'They only able to save 2%', where the pronoun 'They' lacks a clear antecedent. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping the top producers versus the lower-ranked countries.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'very important resource' and 'least creating'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'least creating and using the power'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited to common words. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'marginal difference', and ensure accurate word forms, such as using 'production' instead of 'creating'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'providing and using of electricity' (incorrect preposition), 'China is largest producer' (missing article), and 'They only able to save' (missing verb 'are'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles (a/the), and ensuring that all sentences contain a main verb. Increasing the variety of sentence structures by using subordinate clauses would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
