Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying China and the USA as the top producers and consumers. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the top countries, you fail to provide a comprehensive comparison of the ten countries listed, instead focusing only on a few. The data reporting is accurate, but the lack of a clear overview of the trends across the entire dataset limits the score. To improve, ensure you group countries by performance levels rather than listing them individually, and provide a more analytical summary of the relationship between production and consumption across the group.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. While you use transition words like 'Overall' and 'However', the connection between sentences is often mechanical. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the Korea rep', which lacks formal naming. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that transitions smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'highest', 'top', and 'at last'. There are also issues with word choice and capitalization, such as 'the china' and 'the united stated'. The phrase 'calibration of data is done' is unnatural in this context. To improve, incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data interpretation, such as 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'marginal difference', and pay closer attention to proper noun capitalization and standard terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('the china'), incorrect verb forms ('the country which produces... was china'), and inconsistent capitalization. Punctuation errors, such as spacing before commas and periods, are also present. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent use of articles, and standardizing your punctuation to improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
