Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as identifying China and the USA as the leading countries. However, the report is largely a list of data points rather than a synthesis of information. The description of the data for countries like Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, and Korea is repetitive and lacks analytical comparison. To improve, you should group countries with similar trends or highlight significant gaps between the top and bottom performers rather than listing every figure individually. The overview is also quite weak, as it merely restates the prompt rather than highlighting the most significant trends or patterns observed in the data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is mechanical. You rely heavily on repetitive sentence structures such as 'Then [country] occupies the [number] position'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often feels forced, such as the repetitive use of 'Then' and 'After that' to start sentences. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that your paragraphing serves to group related information logically rather than just breaking up the list of countries.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the same verbs, such as 'occupy', 'produce', and 'consume', throughout the text. While the terminology is accurate for the context of the task, there is a lack of variety in your word choice. To improve, try to use synonyms or different ways to describe the data, such as 'generate', 'utilize', 'rank', or 'account for'. There are also some minor errors in word form, such as '5 thousands' instead of '5,000' or '5 thousand'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'United States occupys' (should be 'occupies') and 'countries... is illustrated' (should be 'are illustrated'). Additionally, there are punctuation and spacing issues, such as the extra spaces after 'However'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
