Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, identifying the top countries and noting the general trend of production versus consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat selective. While it mentions China, the USA, Brazil, Germany, and Korea, it fails to provide a comprehensive overview of the 'top ten' as requested, focusing only on a few. The comparison between production and consumption is accurate, but the lack of data for the remaining five countries limits the depth of the report. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key trends across the entire dataset are synthesized rather than listing individual figures for only half of the countries provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Similarly', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas. However, the progression of information is slightly mechanical. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, and the paragraphing is functional but lacks a sophisticated flow. The use of 'whereas' and 'furthermore' helps maintain coherence, but the overall structure remains somewhat basic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'dominance', 'consumption', and 'respectively'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'most of the country produce' (should be 'countries') and 'expect Germany' (should be 'except'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'production' and 'consumption' and ensure accurate usage of plural forms and prepositions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in year 2014' (missing article 'the'), 'korea Rep' (should be 'the Republic of Korea'), and 'produce more electricity then they consume' (should be 'than'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with capitalization and missing articles. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
