IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The provided bar graph illustrates the top 10 nations for generation and usage of electricity in 2014.

Overall, all the countries except for Germany produced more electricity than consumed which included nation such as China United states and many others.

Detailed analysis of the graph showcases that China was first in production as well as consumption of electricity by far as it produced 5398 billion kWh as used 5322 billion kWh electricity. USA came in second by generating 4099 billion kWh and using 3866 billion kWh of electricity. In the third place was Russia which was not even close to China and USA, producing only 1057 billion kWh and using 1038 billion kWh alongside most of the countries in this list which follows a similar pattern namely, Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil and Korea which came fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh eighth and tenth.

On the other hand, Germany used more electricity in 2014 than it produced as it generated only 526.6 billion kWh but used 582.5 billion kWh coming ninth in the ranking table.
