IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

So the data shown in the bar chart corresponds to the comparison of production and consumption of electric power in top 10 countries of the world in 2014.

Almost all countries shown except Germany were in an energy surplus i.e they produced more electric energy than they consumed.

The top producer as well as top consumer was China which led the second country i.e USA by a difference of approximately 1200 Billion kWh. Then we see a huge difference between Second and third position. There is difference of almost 3000 Billion kWh between third and second country. The difference between the remaining countries is relatively small.

One thing common among all the countries is that high energy consumption is driven by the fact that they are either top economic hubs or have a large population.

Acording to graph France has the largest energy surplus with it producing almost 1000 billion kWh more than it consumed. While Russia has the smallest energy surplus just of 19 billion kWh.
